The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority owns and operates the Thousand Islands International Bridge System near Alexandria Bay, NY and Ivy Lea, Ontario, Canada, covering a distance of 8.5 miles and providing a direct connection to U.S. Interstate 81 and Canada's Highway 401 and 416, also known as the Capital Corridor, the transportation link between Washington, DC and Ottawa, Ontario. The operations of the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority are shared by joint agreement between the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and Federal Bridge Corporation Limited of Canada. The Authority is led by an international board of directors. The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority also owns and operates a major regional tourist attraction, Boldt Castle, since 1977, with over $20 million in capital improvements to the attraction and annual visitation exceeding 240,000. As with all Thousand Islands Bridge Authority projects, Boldt Castle and other non-Bridge projects are fully funded through Authority revenues without state and federal funds.
